Bethany Hardy
Director of Communications

Bethany develops strategy for and leads the Foundation’s communications activities. With two decades of experience in public relations and across sectors—including award-winning public relations agencies; the National Academy of Medicine (formerly known as the Institute of Medicine); on Capitol Hill, and on the presidential campaign trail, Bethany joined Surgo in 2020.

An experienced strategist, Bethany has led communications campaigns that have mobilized communities around access to life-saving medical care for people living with HIV/AIDS; informed federal nutrition and housing policy supporting children’s health; spurred new laws supporting older youth in foster care; and elevated awareness of the role of nurses in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bethany enjoys using her writing, messaging, and media relations expertise to give voice to marginalized populations. Her writing has been published in the Washington Post, the HealthAffairs blog, Christian Science Monitor, The Hill, San Francisco Chronicle, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, CNN.com, PBSParents.org, and more.

Bethany has a BA in English from Wittenberg University.
