Sofia Braunstein
Analyst

Sofía provides research, design, and analytics support across Surgo's portfolio. Her work is grounded in precise, human-centered solutions that leverage data to promote health equity and innovative approaches to development.

Before joining Surgo, Sofía was a consultant with Deloitte Consulting's Government and Public Service practice where she advised clients on strategy, analytics, communication, and evaluation efforts in public health and international development.  She most recently supported efforts in telemedicine, supply preservation, and rural health for the joint FEMA/ASPR national U.S. COVID-19 response. Other clients included USAID, WHO, and the American Heart Association. Prior to Deloitte, she conducted fellowship-funded quantitative and qualitative research in Brazil, Morocco, and Ecuador on children’s and women's health. She has also co-authored shadow reports to various UN bodies with the Center for Reproductive Rights and The Advocates for Human Rights.

Sofia graduated in 2018 from Yale University with degrees in Molecular Biology and Global Affairs, concentrating in global public health and human rights. There she served as a research assistant at the Equity Research and Innovation Center at the Yale School of Medicine. A strong advocate for reproductive justice, she volunteers as a case manager and organizer for the DC Abortion Fund. She is a native Spanish speaker.
